NEW YORK (AP) - Devils forward Grant Marshall was forced to leave Sunday night's game in the first period after New York Rangers defenseman Darius Kasparaitis struck him in the head with his elbow. Kasparaitis was given a major penalty for elbowing and was ejected just 5:51 in. Marshall was alongside the Rangers net when Kasparaitis came in hard and caught him high with his elbow. The right winger spun down to the ice, leading with his back, and then rolled over into a face-down position. He remained there for several moments while being attended to by New Jersey's medical staff. Marshall was then helped to the Devils dressing room. A Devils spokesman said Marshall was conscious and didn't leave Madison Square Garden, but he was ruled out for the game. New Jersey, which entered with a nine-game winning streak, recorded three shots during the extended power play but didn't score. |
